Overview
UX Challenge for Mercado Pago's POS: a mobile app that allows merchants to charge cards through Mercado Pago from anywhere, using a Bluetooth card reader. The exercise covers the core charging flow, from inserting the card to sharing the payment receipt.
Business Context
Mercado Pago works on POS, a mobile application that lets merchants charge cards (e.g. credit) via Mercado Pago from anywhere, using a Bluetooth card reader. Key benefits: interest-free installments across all credit cards, ability to collect Mercado Libre sales at delivery time with no extra commission, management of charges with detailed history and refunds, email payment receipts, and PCI-grade security so merchants don't have to carry cash.
My Role
As UX/UI Designer for this UX Challenge, I owned the case study end-to-end: research and problem framing around a merchant persona (Julián Salazar), definition of needs and goals, and the design of the Android flow for the POS charging experience.
Responsibilities
- Problem statement, user needs and product goal definition.
- User flow for the POS charging experience.
- UI design of the key Android screens: insert/slide card, select installments, successful charge and QR receipt.
- Alignment with Mercado Pago's visual language and Android UI patterns.
Challenge
Julián Salazar, owner of a well-known pet accessories store, lacks secure electronic payment options that deliver a convenient, worry-free purchase experience. Despite his focus on animal wellbeing and product quality, he needs reliable payment alternatives to meet his customers' changing needs. The goal: implement secure electronic payments that provide a smooth checkout while keeping his focus on wellbeing, trend adaptation and quality offering.
